The Atlanta Dream are experiencing a remarkable resurgence, propelled by the guidance of first-year head coach Karl Smesko and the impactful additions of veteran players Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones. Allisha Gray,a two-time all-Star with the Dream,is currently enjoying a career-defining season. Her seamless integration into Smesko’s offensive scheme, which currently paces the WNBA in three-pointers made (averaging 8.8 per game as of June 26th, 2024), has been instrumental in the team’s upward trajectory. Gray’s comfort and confidence within the system are evident in her consistently high performance.

“We have the physical tools to be a truly strong defensive team,” Smesko explained.”At times, we exhibit the capability of having perhaps the best defence in the league – that’s how dominant we can be when everyone is fully engaged. However,there are also moments where we seem content with a back-and-forth scoring exchange.”

He believes that focusing on limiting opponents’ scoring opportunities, rather than simply matching them basket-for-basket, will elevate the team to the next level.
