Odermatt Dominates World Cup, Secures Downhill and Overall Titles

Courchevel, France – Marco Odermatt continued his remarkable season, clinching both the downhill and overall World Cup titles on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The Swiss skier’s performance solidifies his position as a dominant force in alpine skiing.

Odermatt’s Double Victory

Odermatt secured the overall World Cup title thanks to the exit of compatriot Franjo von Allmen, and followed it up with a triumph in the downhill race. He now needs only to mathematically confirm his Super-G title, building on a season of consistent success. This marks his fifth consecutive overall World Cup title (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026).

Strong Performances Across Disciplines

Giovanni Franzoni also delivered a noteworthy performance, finishing fifth in the downhill, just 9 cents behind Vincent Kriechmayr, who brought Austria back to winning a men’s downhill after a three-year drought. Odermatt has a total of 54 World Cup wins (29 in Giant Slalom, 17 in Super-G, and 8 in Downhill) and 102 podiums (46 GS, 28 SG, 28 DH).

Women’s Giant Slalom in Are

The women’s World Cup schedule featured a giant slalom in Are, Sweden. Julia Scheib leads the giant slalom standings with 560 points, 89 ahead of Camille Rast (471 points). Scheib has the opportunity to secure the specialty trophy with a strong performance.

Italian Hopes and Returning Champions

Italy’s Lara Della Mea aims to achieve her first World Cup podium finish after a strong showing at the Olympics. Laura Pirovano, after a two-year absence, returned to competition in the giant slalom.
