Penn State Altoona Professor Presents Research at Eastern American Philosophical Association Meeting
ALTOONA, Pa. – Brian Onishi, associate professor of philosophy at Penn State Altoona, recently presented his work at the annual meeting of the Eastern American Philosophical Association in Baltimore. His presentation was part of a session sponsored by the Journal for the Philosophy of Emotions (JPE).
Onishi’s presentation centered on his 2023 monograph, “Weird Wonder in Merleau-Ponty, Object-Oriented Ontology, and New Materialism.” The work explores the intersection of phenomenology, object-oriented ontology, and new materialism, focusing on the concept of “weird wonder” as a unique mode of engagement wiht the world.
The Journal for the Philosophy of Emotions will publish a detailed discussion of Onishi’s monograph in a forthcoming issue later this year.This publication will offer further analysis and critical engagement with the ideas presented in “Weird Wonder.”
Onishi’s participation in the conference and the subsequent publication in JPE highlight the growing recognition of his scholarship within the field of philosophy, particularly in areas concerning the philosophy of emotions and contemporary continental thought.
