Amazfit smartwatches offer long battery life but block major apps

The Amazfit Bip 6 smartwatch from Zepp Health costs as little as $80 and runs for up to 25 days on a single charge, though it uses a proprietary operating system that prevents access to Google Maps, Spotify and banking apps, Engadget reported.

The Chinese company’s lineup spans square models like the Bip 6 and Active 2 that resemble Apple Watch designs alongside round-faced options such as the Active Max and T-Rex 3, which targets outdoor adventurers with a Garmin-like aesthetic. Both iPhone and Android users can pair the watches because Zepp OS operates independently of either phone platform.

Worldwide Entertainment News confirmed the same pricing and specifications, adding that the devices include an AI-powered Zepp Coach, Bluetooth calling, Alexa command support and more than 100 sports modes ranging from strength training to Tai Chi.

Zepp OS Blocks Major Mobile Services

Amazfit watches run on Zepp OS, which limits users to a small selection of productivity apps and games from the Zepp Store rather than the extensive libraries available on Wear OS devices. The watches cannot access Google Wallet, Google Maps, Uber, Starbucks, Gmail or banking applications, and there is no native Spotify app, though wearers can control music playback from their phones or mirror Spotify through a remote app.

The software also uses unfamiliar metrics such as PAI, a personal activity score, and Biocharge, a readiness score, which differ from the terminology used by better-known brands. Some models face storage constraints; the Bip 6, for example, includes 512MB of storage, which could create issues when saving workout data or additional apps.

Fitness Platforms and Health Sensors Included

Despite the app restrictions, the watches integrate with third-party fitness platforms including Strava, TrainingPeaks, Komoot and Runna. They carry sensors for heart rate, sleep, temperature and GPS, and they track data without charging a subscription fee, distinguishing them from basic fitness trackers that often require paid tiers for full metrics.

Three Years of Software Support

Zepp Health provides only three years of software and security updates for its smartwatches. The devices continue to function after that period ends, but buyers planning to keep a watch longer should factor the limited support window into their decision.

Compatibility and Battery Life Vary by Model

Can Amazfit watches run Google Maps or Google Wallet? No. The watches cannot access Google Maps, Google Wallet, Uber, Gmail or banking apps because they run on Zepp OS rather than Wear OS, though they do integrate with fitness platforms like Strava and Komoot.

How long does an Amazfit battery last? Some models last up to 25 days per charge, according to Engadget.

Do Amazfit watches work with iPhone? Yes. The watches pair with either iPhone or Android because Zepp OS is not tied to a specific phone platform.

Buyers who value app compatibility and easy-to-use interfaces over cost can find cheaper options in Fitbit and Garmin’s newer models or used Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch devices, even if they’re approaching the end of their software support.
