AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) is based on the combination of Frame Interpolation and Optical Flow-enhanced AMD Fluid Motion Frames under FSR 2 acceleration, allowing games to achieve higher and stable FPS game performance.

FSR 3 recommends developers use independent asynchronous Replacement Swapchain to handle FSR 3. In terms of the process, the parts that need resolution improvement are handed over to FSR 3 Upscale, while the pixel vectors, UI and other images calculated by Optical Flow are handed over to FSR 3 Frame Generation. Finally, through FSR 3 Swapchain & Frame Pacing, the actual game images and complements are Frame image output to achieve higher FPS performance output.

↑ FSR 3 workflow.

However, FSR 3 requires game developers and game engines to support the integration of technology before players can turn on this function in the game. Currently supported games include “Avatar: Pandora’s Frontier”, “Forspoken”, “Immortals of Aveum”, etc. games; but AMD has also integrated the core AMD Fluid Motion Frames functionality into Radeon Software.

Basically, after updating the RX 5000, RX 6000 and RX 7000 series of GPUs with the new driver, in the Gaming > Graphics settings, you can turn on “HYPR-RX” acceleration to fully enable all Radeon technologies, or you can choose to turn on “AMD Just turn on the “Fluid Motion Frames” function. When turned on, Anti-Lag will be forced to start to reduce latency.

↑ AMD Fluid Motion Frames。

After AMD Fluid Motion Frames is turned on, regardless of whether the game supports FSR 3, you can use this technology to obtain frame filling acceleration. However, when the game is started, please set it to “Full Screen” and turn off “Vertical Synchronization”; when the game is started, you can use Overlay In the interface, check whether Fluid Motion Frames is enabled normally.

↑ AMD Fluid Motion Frames starts normally.

↑ Abnormal startup may be related to the game’s full screen, vertical synchronization and other settings, or other OSD programs may also be affected.

After starting the game, you can use Ctrl + Shift + O to turn on Radeon Software’s OSD monitoring function. In addition to FPS, there will also be “Frame Gen Lag”. Due to the relationship between frame filling, the delay will definitely increase. If the GPU performance is not enough or Real-time battle games are relatively unsuitable for enabling AMD Fluid Motion Frames.

↑ Remember to observe the Frame Gen Lag condition after turning on AMD Fluid Motion Frames.

Actual testing showed that RX 7600 XT enabled FSR 3 frame-filling in the supported game “Avatar: Pandora’s Frontier” and could reach 116.2 FPS at 1440p resolution. Compared with the original performance that was not turned on, it had a performance improvement of 1.97x, while “Diablo” “God of Destruction IV” can also achieve a performance of 202 FPS with AFMF turned on, and “Dynasty 2077” can achieve an excellent average performance of 76.9 FPS.

However, although the performance of “Star Wars Jedi: Survivors” and “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” has been improved after being turned on, it seems to be somewhere in between. In addition, the FPS measured after “Hogwarts Legacy” is turned on is actually reduced. More; it can be seen that AMD Fluid Motion Frames can be supported by the driver, but in the end, only after the game engine supports and optimizes it can take into account “performance” and “latency”.
