Drea de Matteo: From ‘Sopranos’ Star to MAGA Supporter – Is Hollywood Trump Country?
Actress Drea de Matteo, best known for her Emmy-winning role as Adriana La Cerva on “The Sopranos,” is making headlines for her outspoken support of Donald Trump. She claims that she’s far from alone in Hollywood and that “half of Hollywood is actually voting for Trump.”
She revealed her political stance and its impact on her career in a recent interview with Variety. De Matteo explained that she stopped working after publicly voicing her opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I’m a hippie. I didn’t want to get the vaccine. I wanted to wait it out to see what the outcome was,” she said. “Without a phone call or an email. Just told me through my manager, and that was that. I couldn’t work anymore.”
This professional setback, coupled with feeling isolated from her previous circle of friends and agents, pushed her away from her previous support of Joe Biden, whom she voted for in 2020.
MAGA in Hollywood?
While de Matteo claims that a significant portion of Hollywood supports Trump, there are also many prominent figures who back his political opponents. Actors like Zachary Levi, Mel Gibson, and Dennis Quaid have spoken out in favor of the former president. On the other side of the aisle, A-listers like Jennifer Aniston, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Spike Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and others have publicly endorsed Kamala Harris.
Drea de Matteo’s “Sopranos” costars Michael Imperioli and Lorraine Bracco have both publicly voiced their support for the vice president.
Bracco even organized a “Paisans for Kamala” Zoom fundraising call in August.
Reproductive Rights: A Point of Contention
De Matteo also expressed a dissenting view on the pro-choice movement, stating that it had “gone so far in the pro-choice direction that it became sort of an aberration of the rights that women have fought for, where those rights no longer even seem like human rights.”
This stance further highlights the deeply divided political landscape within Hollywood and the country at large.
With the 2024 election approaching, the political affiliations of celebrities are once again under scrutiny.
