Apple to Exclusively Broadcast Formula 1 in the US from 2026

  • Apple TV+ will air all 24 races and integrate F1 TV Premium.
  • The deal is understood to be worth US$150 million a season.
  • Selected races will be made available free-to-air.

Apple has reached a five-year agreement to become the exclusive broadcaster of Formula One in the US starting next season.

Apple TV+ will show every practice, qualifying, sprint race, and Grand prix from the 2026 Formula One World Championship without any extra cost to subscribers. They’ll also get access to F1 TV premium.

To improve accessibility in a key growth market, all practice sessions will be free, and select races throughout the season will also be available for free viewing.

The tech company has been linked to Formula One for some time, especially as ESPN currently holds the broadcast rights. Speculation increased following the triumphant release of the film F1: The Movie.

While the exact financial details haven’t been officially released, it’s believed Apple will pay US$150 million per season, totaling US$750 million over the contract’s duration. This represents a notable increase compared to ESPN’s current deal, reportedly worth US$90 million annually.

ESPN released a statement after the news broke, saying: ‘We’re incredibly proud of what we and Formula One accomplished together in the United States and look forward to a strong finish in this final season. We wish F1 well in the future.’

Apple plans to share more specifics about its coverage plans closer to the new season. However, they’ve already promised to promote the sport across their entire range of apps, including apple News, apple Maps, Apple Music, Apple Sports, and Apple Fitness+.
