Apple TV+ is Now Just Apple TV – Here’s Why
Table of Contents
Apple’s services chief Eddy Cue recently explained the reasoning behind the decision too drop the “+” from apple TV+, renaming the streaming service simply Apple TV. According to Cue, the change was made because many people were already referring to the service as Apple TV.
“We just decided,” Cue told host Matthew Belloni on The Town podcast. “We all called it Apple TV and we said, given were we are today, it’s a great time to do it.”
Launched in November 2019, Apple’s streaming service has become well-established and boasts a growing library of award-winning series.
However, the name change does introduce potential confusion, as it now shares a name with both the Apple TV streaming device and the Apple TV app. Cue addressed this, clarifying that the hardware is now officially called Apple TV 4K.
“Our hardware is called Apple TV 4K for your TV,” he said. “I think that’s fine, and the app is called Apple TV. It’s been called Apple TV on our third-party products as well, so I don’t think that’ll be a problem at all.”
The rollout of the new name is expected to happen soon.

Apple’s Upcoming Releases: AirPods Pro and M5 MacBook Pro
apple is poised to update its product lineup with a new version of the AirPods Pro and a significantly upgraded MacBook Pro. While details surrounding the AirPods Pro remain somewhat ambiguous, the imminent launch of the M5-powered MacBook pro is shaping up to be a substantial leap forward in performance and efficiency. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect from both releases.
airpods Pro: A New Generation, Not Necessarily “Pro 3”
Rumors suggest Apple is preparing a new version of its high-end in-ear buds, currently known as airpods Pro. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported on the upcoming earbuds, describing them as a “new version” rather than definitively labeling them “AirPods Pro 3.” https://www.macrumors.com/2024/05/13/airpods-pro-new-version-2025/
This suggests Apple may be opting for a significant revision of the existing AirPods Pro 2, potentially incorporating new features and improvements without a full generational jump in naming. Specific details regarding features and release date are currently limited, but further announcements are expected as we approach the anticipated launch window.
M5 MacBook Pro: Power and Efficiency on the Horizon
Apple is expected to unveil a new MacBook Pro, likely as early as tomorrow, featuring the next-generation M5 chip. This update represents a key step in Apple’s silicon roadmap, promising substantial improvements over the current M4 series.
M5 Chip: Built for Performance
The M5 chip will be a cornerstone of the new MacBook Pro, replacing the M4. It’s built on TSMC’s advanced 3-nanometer process technology. https://9to5mac.com/2024/05/13/m5-chip-macbook-pro-details/ This more refined manufacturing process allows for increased transistor density, leading to both speed and efficiency gains.
What does this mean for users? Expect faster processing speeds for demanding tasks like video editing, 3D rendering, and software growth. The improved efficiency will also contribute to longer battery life, a crucial factor for professional users.
Expected Improvements
While Apple hasn’t officially detailed the M5 chip’s specifications, industry analysts predict:
* Increased CPU Performance: A noticeable boost in processing power for everyday tasks and complex workflows.
* Enhanced GPU Performance: Improved graphics capabilities for gaming, video editing, and other visually intensive applications.
* Neural Engine Upgrades: Faster and more efficient machine learning performance for features like image recognition and voice processing.
* Improved Power Efficiency: Longer battery life and reduced heat generation.
Key Takeaways
* Apple is preparing a new version of the AirPods Pro, potentially with significant updates but not necessarily branded as “AirPods Pro 3.”
* A new MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip is expected to launch soon, offering substantial performance and efficiency improvements.
* The M5 chip,built on a 3-nanometer process,will deliver faster processing speeds,enhanced graphics,and longer battery life.
Looking ahead
Apple’s continued investment in its silicon and audio technologies demonstrates a commitment to delivering cutting-edge products. The launch of the M5 MacBook Pro will be a significant milestone, showcasing the benefits of Apple’s chip design expertise. As more information becomes available regarding the new AirPods Pro, we can expect a clearer picture of Apple’s plans for the future of its popular wireless earbuds.
