Apple Updates MacBook Pro and iMac With M6 Chips

Apple has refreshed its hardware lineup by equipping both the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac with its newest M6 system-on-chip. The company unveiled the updated machines, bringing faster processing speeds and upgraded connectivity options to the desktop and laptop models.

Preorders for both the new iMac and MacBook Pro open on October 28, 2026, with shipments scheduled to begin on November 6, 2026. While the internal hardware received significant upgrades, the external chassis designs for both computers remain largely unchanged from their predecessors.

Inside the M6 24-Inch iMac Upgrades

The 24-inch iMac retains its familiar 24-inch 4.5K Retina Display operating at 500 nits of maximum brightness. It also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View support.

Under the hood, the machine houses an M6 SoC featuring up to 12 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores. The system includes a dual neural engine setup with 16 cores each, alongside neural accelerators built into every iGPU core. Memory bandwidth has increased from 120 GB/s to 170 GB/s. Apple claims the new iMac delivers up to twice the graphics performance and up to five times the artificial intelligence performance compared to the previous model, with a 40 percent boost in CPU processing power.

The system supports up to 32 GB of unified memory and up to 2 TB of storage utilizing a PCI Express 5.0 interface. Apple’s new N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, replacing the previous Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 capabilities. A higher-tier $1,699 version includes the full 12-core CPU and GPU configuration, four Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a power adapter featuring a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, 16 GB of memory, and 256 GB of storage.

Performance Gains in the 14-Inch MacBook Pro

The 14-inch MacBook Pro carries over the physical design of its predecessor while introducing internal hardware changes. The M5 processor is replaced by the M6 chip, which offers up to 12 CPU cores, 12 GPU cores, and a dual 16-core neural engine. Memory bandwidth has increased to 170 GB/s.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI output, an SDXC card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The base model starts at $1,999 with 16 GB of memory and 1 TB of storage, omitting the 512 GB tier that was phased out earlier.
