Archie Comics Heading to the Big Screen with Spider-Verse Producers
The producers behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie are bringing Archie Comics to movie theaters.
On Wednesday,Aug. 20,The Hollywood Reporter,Variety and Deadline reported that filmmaking duo Christopher Miller and Phil Lord are producing a feature-length adaptation of the beloved comic book series alongside former 20th Century Studios executive Emma Watts.
Tom King, a comic book writer who is credited as a writer on next year’s Supergirl, is adapting archie comics for a big screen release, while archie Comics CEO and publisher Jon Goldwater will co-produce the movie.
“we are longtime fans of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the gang in all of their iterations,” Lord, 50, and Miller, 49, said in a statement obtained by multiple outlets. “Tom King’s pitch made sense as an event movie for all audiences – both lifelong fans and a whole new generation.”
Archie Comics were most recently adapted for the small screen in the CW drama series Riverdale, which starred KJ Apa, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to Develop Live-Action ‘Archie’ Movie
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller,the acclaimed filmmaking duo behind the Lego Movie and the Spider-Verse animated films,are set to develop a live-action movie based on the Archie comic book series,according to The Hollywood Reporter.archie Comics first launched stories featuring Archie Andrews and the residents of Riverdale in 1941. The characters gained renewed popularity with a modern audience through The CW’s television series Riverdale, which premiered in 2017 and concluded in 2023. the series, initially a mystery centered around a teenager’s death, reimagined the classic comic book storylines. Riverdale starred KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, alongside Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones.Currently, details regarding the plot of Lord and Miller’s Archie adaptation remain undisclosed. They are also continuing work on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the final installment in Sony’s critically acclaimed animated Spider-Verse trilogy.
