Argentine Table Tennis Star Gabriel Copola Seeks Support for Paralympic Qualification
Buenos Aires, Argentina – Gabriel Copola, a decorated Argentine para table tennis player, is appealing for financial assistance to compete in crucial qualifying tournaments for the 2026 World Championship and the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The 42-year-old athlete is aiming to continue his impressive Paralympic journey, representing Argentina on the world stage.
A Career Defined by Resilience and Achievement
Copola’s path to Paralympic success began after a bicycle accident at the age of 11 left him with a paraplegic condition. Undeterred, he discovered a passion for table tennis in 1999 and quickly rose through the ranks, making his international debut the same year. He has since become a mainstay of Argentine para table tennis, competing in four consecutive Paralympic Games: London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and now preparing for Paris 2024 [1].
His achievements include three Parapan American championship titles [1]. Currently ranked 11th in the world in Class 3 table tennis, Copola previously reached a career high of 5th in February 2016 [1].
Upcoming Tournaments and Qualification Goals
Between April 17th and 27th, Copola will compete in the Chile and Brazil Opens, international competitions that will contribute to his world ranking and serve as qualifiers for the 2026 World Championship in Thailand, scheduled for November 13-19 [1]. He will participate in both singles and doubles modalities, partnering with Elias Romero [1].
Seeking Support for Paralympic Dreams
Copola, who also works as a Physical Educator and teacher at the National University of La Matanza (UNLaM) [3], is seeking financial support to cover travel expenses, lodging, and tournament registration fees. He has established a dedicated alias – Gabrielcopola.tdm – for receiving collaborations and encourages companies and individuals to contact him through his social media channels [1].
“Each point in the ranking is essential to be able to qualify for the World Cup. This tour is very important in my sporting path, and any help helps to be able to represent Argentina,” Copola stated [1].
