A recent angler landed a 16-inch crappie in shallow water using minnows.

This report summarizes recent fishing conditions at Lake Dardanelle and Peckerwood lake in Arkansas, based on the latest available data as of August 22, 2025. Conditions are hot and dry, impacting water levels and fish behavior.

Lake Dardanelle

Lake Dardanelle continues to offer good fishing opportunities, particularly for bass and crappie.

Bass Fishing:

Techniques: Anglers are finding success throwing a Bandit 200 crankbait parallel to the jetty, positioning the lure approximately two feet from the structure. This technique targets bass holding along the rocks.
General Conditions: The lake is experiencing typical late-summer conditions.

Crappie Fishing:

Locations: Focus on the mouths of backwater areas leading into the main river channel. Look for rock pools and submerged brush piles, as crappie are holding on these structures.
Baits: A black and chartreuse crappie jig is proving effective.

Peckerwood Lake (Updated August 14, 2025)

Peckerwood Lake is currently experiencing low water levels due to hot, dry weather. This has led to the emergence of stumps, creating a challenging but potentially rewarding fishing environment known locally as “stump jumping” – navigating to find the main channel.General Conditions:

Donna Mulherin at Herman’s Landing (501-626-6899) reports fewer anglers due to the extreme heat.
Water levels are low, exposing stumps.
Finding the main channel is key to locating fish.

Species-Specific Fishing:

Crappie: Crappie are being caught on jigs around submerged structures. Catfish: Catfish are a popular target, and are readily taking a variety of baits. Liver and hot dogs are considered particularly effective.
Bass: While most bass fishing activity is concentrated on the northern end of the lake, conditions are believed to be favorable.Reports from anglers frequenting the northern end are not readily available through Herman’s Landing. Bream: Bream fishing has slowed recently, though some anglers are still targeting them with limited reported success.

looking Ahead

As conditions remain hot and dry, anglers should expect low water levels to persist at Peckerwood Lake. Focusing on areas with available cover and utilizing a variety of baits will be crucial for success. At Lake dardanelle, continuing to target structure with crankbaits and jigs should yield results.
