Arteta Reflects on Arsenal’s Narrow Defeat to Manchester United
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment following a closely contested match against Manchester United, ultimately ending in a defeat for the Gunners. Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, Arteta acknowledged manchester United’s victory while dissecting the pivotal moments that shifted the game’s momentum.
Arteta highlighted Arsenal’s strong start, emphasizing their dominance in the opening half-hour. “We were so dominant in the first half hour, scored a goal, had two other brilliant chances to score,” he stated. However, he pinpointed an uncharacteristic error that conceded a goal to Manchester United as a turning point. “We gave them a goal (made a mistake), which was very unusual from our side. It changed and shifted the momentum a bit.”
Following the conceded goal,Arteta observed a dip in Arsenal’s performance. “After that we lowered the bar on the ball, the game was not in our control, and they had two moments of magic. Credit to them because in big games you need those moments.” He acknowledged the quality of Manchester United’s decisive plays, recognizing their impact in a high-stakes encounter.
Despite the setback, Arsenal rallied, managing to equalize and briefly regain control. “We carried a bit of a negative vibe and didn’t have the fluidity we needed. But then we made a change, scored a goal, and you could feel it at 2-2, the game came back to life. Everything changed instantly,” Arteta explained. However,a late goal from Cunha ultimately sealed the victory for Manchester United.
Arteta concluded by expressing his support for the team and emphasizing the importance of learning from the defeat. “It hurts a lot, but it’s time to stay close to the players who have given us great moments. We all want to win. We have to learn from it. Defeat is part of winning, and we have to accept it like this, because they need to be reminded how good they are.” He stressed the need for resilience and a continued focus on improvement as Arsenal navigates the challenges of the season.
