Hampshire Trojans Secure First Win of Season, East Hardy and Petersburg Also Triumph
ROMNEY, W.Va. — The Hampshire Trojans achieved their first victory of the 2025-2026 basketball season on Friday, defeating Grafton 67-59. The win, fueled by a strong second-half performance and 28 points from Matt Medina, marks a turning point for the Trojans, who previously held a 0-19 record.
Hampshire Trojans Overcome Early Deficit
Hampshire trailed 18-8 after the first quarter and 28-24 at halftime, but a 24-point third quarter propelled them into the lead. They maintained their advantage in the fourth period, winning 19-15, and ultimately securing the 67-59 victory. Tanner Netzer contributed 13 points to the effort, even as Channing Wilt added eight.
The Trojans demonstrated accuracy at the free-throw line, going 24 for 34, with Medina leading the team at 13 for 16.
For Grafton, Jacob Moats and Gage Alexander led the scoring with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
Hampshire also won the junior varsity contest, defeating Grafton 43-27, with Chase Brill scoring 16 points for Hampshire and Dylan Andrews leading Grafton with 13.
Hampshire will next host Preston on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
East Hardy Dominates Northern with Three-Point Barrage
In a dominant performance, East Hardy defeated Northern 89-41 on Friday, sinking a remarkable 18 three-pointers. Evan Hamilton led the charge with 26 points, including seven successful three-pointers.
Gideon Good added 19 points, Mason Hamilton contributed 15, and Aubrey McCullough scored 14 for the Cougars (15-4). Good scored 14 points in the first half, while Mason Hamilton made five shots from distance.
Northern’s Jayden McNally led his team with 24 points, shooting 10 of 12 at the free-throw line. Angelo Lacy added 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers.
East Hardy led by significant margins throughout the game: 28-9 after the first quarter, 49-12 at halftime, and 77-27 after three quarters.
East Hardy will travel to Pendleton County on Tuesday night.
Petersburg Defeats Moorefield
Petersburg secured an 88-74 victory over Moorefield on Friday. Further details of this game were not immediately available.
