Audi to Revive A2 Model as Electric Vehicle
Audi has officially confirmed the revival of the A2 model, signaling a shift towards more accessible electric mobility. The announcement was made at the automaker’s annual press conference, accompanied by a preview image of the forthcoming vehicle. The official unveiling is scheduled for this fall.
A2 to Replace A1 and Q2
The recent electric A2 will be produced in Audi’s hometown of Ingolstadt and is positioned as an indirect replacement for the A1 and Q2 models, which are slated to be discontinued. The vehicle will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, aligning its size and specifications with the modernized Volkswagen ID.3, known as the ID. Neo.
Design Echoes Original A2
The design of the new A2 is expected to blend crossover and MPV elements, reminiscent of the original A2 produced between 1999 and 2005. The original A2 was noted for its forward-thinking design.
Expanding Electric Mobility Access
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner emphasized the strategic importance of the A2 in broadening the appeal of Audi’s electric vehicle range. “We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that amazes them in their everyday lives. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver just that: an efficient, compact and confident model,” Döllner stated.
