Southington’s Austin Florian Completes Olympic Competition with Strong Skeleton Run
Southington, Connecticut native Austin Florian concluded his participation in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics with a seventh-place finish in the skeleton mixed team event on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Florian and teammate Mystique Ro combined for a total time of 2:00.39.
Mixed Team Event Details
The skeleton mixed team event features two-person teams comprised of one male and one female slider. Each athlete completes one run down the track and the combined times determine the final standings. Florian recorded a time of 59.31 seconds, whereas Ro finished her run in 1:01.08.
Great Britain’s Tabitha Stoecker and Matt Weston secured the gold medal with a time of 2:00.36, just 0.03 seconds ahead of the American duo. German teams claimed the silver and bronze medals.
Individual Performance
Florian also competed in the men’s singles skeleton event, finishing in 12th place on Friday, February 14, 2026.
Florian’s Background and Achievements
Austin Florian is a graduate of Clarkson University, where he earned a degree in engineering. He initially competed as a college alpine ski racer before discovering skeleton during a family trip to Lake Placid. He won a gold medal at the 2025 IBSF World Championships in mixed team skeleton, the first time the event was held.
Florian grew up in Southington, Connecticut, and began skiing at the age of two. He participated in ski racing competitions from age six and also played lacrosse and golf in high school.
