Austin Peay Falls to Queens in ASUN Tournament Semifinals
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite a dominant 35-point, 13-rebound double-double performance by junior forward Rashaud Marshall, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball team suffered a 90-83 defeat to Queens in the Atlantic Sun Conference Semifinals on Saturday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.[4]
Marshall’s Standout Performance
Marshall’s 35-point outing marked the second-highest scoring game of his career. The Blytheville, Arkansas native efficiently shot 14-for-20 from the field and added seven free throws. He also contributed four offensive rebounds.[4]
Game Recap
Austin Peay (22-9) initially scored its first 20 points exclusively in the paint, with Marshall accounting for 14 of those points. The Governors led 20-19 midway through the first half after a layup by Zyree Collins, marking the game’s seventh lead change within the first 9:27. A free throw by Ja’Corey Robinson extended APSU’s lead to two, but Queens (20-13) quickly regained the lead. Queens led 34-29 with five minutes remaining in the first half.[4]
Queens closed the first half strong, scoring six unanswered points in the final 51 seconds, fueled by back-to-back three-pointers. Marshall led all scorers with 19 points in the opening half, adding six rebounds and shooting 9-of-12 from the floor. Queens shot 50% from both the field and beyond the three-point line, making eight triples.[4]
Collins scored the first six points of the second half, narrowing the APSU deficit to 47-46. However, Queens responded with a game-high eight-point lead with 9:31 remaining. A three-point play by Tate McCubbin ignited a 10-4 run for Austin Peay, with McCubbin hitting back-to-back three-pointers during the scoring stretch.[4]
Queens ultimately extended its lead to double digits and maintained a lead of at least six points for the remainder of the contest.[4]
