Auto Bassadone Exits Latvian Market, Focuses on Estonia

Auto Bassadone, a prominent automotive sales and service company in the Baltic region, is selling its Latvian operations to Auto Blitz, a subsidiary of Mūsa Motors Group. The move signals a strategic shift for Auto Bassadone, which will now concentrate its efforts on the Estonian market. The transaction is expected to be finalized on April 1st, pending approval from the Latvian Competition Council.

Deal Details and Transition

According to statements from both companies, the sale will not disrupt the daily operations of the Mežciems car showroom. Mūsa Motors Group and Auto Blitz have committed to a smooth transition process for customers. Further details regarding the agreement and future plans will be released after the Competition Council’s approval.1

A Major Baltic Dealership

The Mežciems car showroom, previously owned by Auto Bassadone, was one of the largest in the Baltic states, showcasing over 100 models from 10 brands, including Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Fiat, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jeep, Opel, Peugeot, Suzuki, and KGM (formerly SsangYong). The dealership employed more than 60 people.12

Bassadone Automotive Nordic’s Broader Strategy

Auto Bassadone is part of Bassadone Automotive Nordic, which has been operating in Finland and the Baltic countries since 1997. The company currently imports 15 car brands, including those within the Stellantis group (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Opel, Peugeot, and DC), as well as Hyundai, Isuzu, Lotus, KGM (SsangYong), Nissan, and Suzuki. In Finland, Bassadone Automotive Nordic also imports Renault and Dacia.32

Strategic Rationale for the Sale

Veiko Karu, CEO of Auto Bassadone, explained that the sale was initiated by Latvian businessmen following successful collaboration between Bassadone Automotive Nordic and Auto Blitz in Opel distribution within Latvia. He stated that the decision was made after careful evaluation and allows Auto Bassadone to consolidate resources in Estonia.1

Karu also noted that the Latvian car market experienced 35% growth in 2025, creating favorable conditions for the transaction.1 He further emphasized that the company’s previous multi-market strategy was developed in a different economic context, particularly before the introduction of a car tax in Estonia and the subsequent market decline. The current focus on Estonia is driven by the need for greater focus and efficiency in response to specific market challenges.

Future Outlook for Estonia

Auto Bassadone anticipates a recovery in the Estonian car market no earlier than 2027. Karu believes that concentrating resources on a single, strong multi-brand showroom in Estonia will enable the company to optimize operations, increase market share, and provide a high-quality customer experience.1
