Mamie Jacotte: Bridging the Generational Gap with Personalized Photo Magazines
In an increasingly digital world, staying connected with loved ones can sometimes feel impersonal. Loïc Billamboz, a 22-year-vintage from Marseille, France, sought a solution to this challenge after the passing of his grandmother, Jacqueline. Inspired by his desire to share memories with her in a more tangible way, he created Mamie Jacotte, a mobile application designed to deliver monthly photo magazines directly to grandparents’ mailboxes.
The Inspiration Behind Mamie Jacotte
Billamboz’s idea stemmed from his experience trying to share photos with his grandmother via WhatsApp. “I was trying to send her a lot of photos on WhatsApp, but she wasn’t very tech-savvy and had trouble opening them,” he explained in an interview with France Bleu. This realization sparked the concept of an application that would transform digital photos into a physical, cherished keepsake.
How Mamie Jacotte Works
Launched in June 2025, Mamie Jacotte allows families to upload up to 28 photos each month. These photos are then professionally arranged and printed into a 16-page magazine, complete with a high-quality, semi-matte paper finish. The magazine is then mailed directly to the recipient’s home. The service operates on a monthly subscription basis, with costs ranging from €8.99 to €11.99. Actuistres reports that the application was designed to be user-friendly and accessible, even for those less familiar with technology.
Connecting Generations in a Digital Age
While many seniors are becoming increasingly comfortable with technology – with 40% of those aged 65-75 regularly using email, SMS, or instant messaging according to the Mission interministérielle de lutte contre les drogues et les conduites addictives (Mildeca) – Mamie Jacotte offers a unique alternative to digital photo sharing. It provides a tangible way for families to stay connected and create lasting memories. As one grandmother, Mireille, shared with France Bleu, “It’s always nice to have photos of my grandchildren, it brings joy at our age.”
A Growing Community
In the six months since its launch, Mamie Jacotte has already garnered over 200 family subscriptions. Billamboz’s initiative reflects a growing desire to find meaningful ways to connect with older generations and preserve family history. The application, entirely designed and printed in France, embodies a commitment to quality, responsibility, and ethical practices.
