Avignon’s Allées de l’Oulle Car Park Closed Again Due to Rhône River Levels

For the second time in four days, the Allées de l’Oulle car park in Avignon, France, has been closed due to rising levels of the Rhône River. The closure, effective this Tuesday morning, prevents motorists from parking in the area.

According to the Avignon municipality, no evacuation of vehicles already parked at the facility is currently planned. Whereas, the situation is being closely monitored as the Rhône River continues to swell.

Recent Closures and River Levels

The Allées de l’Oulle car park was previously closed on February 13th as a precautionary measure against potential flooding. As of February 13th, the Rhône River level at Avignon had reached 4.18 meters, prompting the municipality to issue a yellow alert. La Provence reported that both the Allées de l’Oulle and Antoine-Pinay parking areas were closed.

Preventative Measures and Potential Impact

Fabrice Tocabens, an Avignon city council member, explained that the closures are preventative measures taken due to rising water levels throughout the Rhône basin. The city is monitoring the situation and will adjust its response based on weather conditions upstream. La Provence noted that if water levels continue to rise, vehicles remaining in the car park may be moved to the Île Piot parking area.

The planned opening of a Luna Park on the Allées de l’Oulle parking area, scheduled for a month-long run, is currently under review. A crisis meeting was scheduled to determine whether the event can proceed given the potential for continued flooding. La Provence reported on this potential impact.

Ongoing Monitoring and Safety

The Avignon municipality is continuing to monitor the Rhône River levels and will provide updates as needed. Motorists are advised to avoid the Allées de l’Oulle car park until further notice. France Bleu confirms the ongoing closure as of Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
