JAKARTA – Indonesia Martial Arts Governors (PB WI) president Airlangga Hartarto is hoping the sports discipline he leads can retain its gold medal at this year’s Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.

He said this after being elected with a landslide victory at the PB WI National Assembly Meeting (Munas) held at the Aloft Hotel in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. This is the third period he has held that position.

“For the 2026 Asian Games, we will prepare through intensive national training. Hopefully, we can maintain our performance of winning a gold medal at the Asian Games,” said Airlangga, who also served as Indonesia’s centralized minister for economic affairs.

Martial arts brought one gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. This has been delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The only gold medal at the time was won by Harris Horace in the difficult/obstacle event. The two silver medals belonged to Edgar Chabert Marbello and Samuel Marbon, while Seraph Naro Siregar and Tarissa dea Florentina received bronze medals.

Aylanga said it was an honor for the members to once again be appointed president and given them great responsibility in relation to a better future for the martial arts.

“Above all, we need to continue our performance in both single and multiple events and pave the way to the 2032 Olympics, so we need to provide training and discipline to our young athletes.”

Alanga is set to become the president of Indonesian martial arts until 2030. He gained credibility due to the martial arts’ various achievements during his previous eight years of leadership.

The 63-year-old politician hopes his third term as president will see him fight for the martial arts to compete at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane after appearing at this year’s Youth Olympic Games.

“Of course we want to prepare for the Olympics and now we are competing in the Youth Olympics, so it is another sign of martial arts taking it to the next level.”

The 2026 Asian Games are scheduled to be held from September 19 to October 4. After winning two consecutive gold medals, Yuexu could be a rising star once again.
