Bannalec Gymnastics Club Celebrates a Year of Achievement, faces Enrollment Challenges
A Breathtaking Showcase of Talent
The Bannalecois Gymnastics club concluded its 2024-2025 season with a vibrant and energetic gala held on Saturday, June 28th, 2025. Over 130 gymnasts captivated the audience with a dazzling display of skill and enthusiasm. This event marked a return to the club’s annual celebration, following a previous gala in June 2022. The gymnasts, ranging from beginners to competitive athletes, presented a series of themed routines inspired by beloved animated characters, demonstrating the breadth of talent within the club.
Community Recognition and Appreciation
The performance received a resounding ovation, acknowledging the dedication and hard work of the gymnasts and the coaching team. Special recognition was given to Charlène Goalabré,the club president, and Anaëlle Derrien, for their unwavering commitment to the gymnasts’ advancement. A heartfelt tribute, including flowers and a commemorative speech, was presented to express the club’s gratitude. Magali Cotonnec, the club’s communications officer, also emphasized the vital contributions of the club’s dedicated volunteers, office members, and supportive parents, whose collective efforts were instrumental in the evening’s success. According to a recent study by the National Federation of State Gymnastics Associations, volunteer involvement is crucial for the sustainability of community-based gymnastics programs, with clubs relying on an average of 20 volunteer hours per gymnast annually.
Looking ahead: Addressing Coaching Needs and Enrollment
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the club is currently facing challenges regarding the upcoming season. Registration for the next school year is temporarily suspended. Throughout the past year, the club has admirably operated with volunteer supervision in the absence of a qualified gymnastics instructor, following a previous coach’s departure. Though, the club leadership has determined that continuing under this model is unsustainable. The fourteen members of the governing board are actively pursuing solutions to secure professional coaching and ensure the continuation of high-quality gymnastics instruction. They are committed to finding a long-term solution that will allow them to reopen registration and welcome gymnasts back to the program.
