Tarleton State Texans Defeat South Dakota State Jackrabbits 9-2, Remaining Undefeated at Home
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Tarleton State Texans secured a 9–2 victory over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Friday afternoon at the Tarleton State Baseball Complex, maintaining their undefeated record at home.
Game Highlights
The Texans took an early lead in the second inning with an RBI single from Carson Lorch, scoring Jake Tatom. They extended their advantage in the third inning as Sergio Guerra doubled home Brady Englett, followed by an RBI double from Kendyl Johnson, increasing the lead to 3–0.
South Dakota State responded with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, narrowing the gap to 3-2. However, Tarleton State quickly regained momentum in the bottom of the fifth, with Lorch driving in another run with his second RBI single of the game.
The Texans broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring four runs with 10 batters at the plate. Jake Tatom delivered a two-run single, while Johnson and Lorch each added RBI hits, pushing the lead to 8–2.
Lorch capped off his outstanding performance with a solo home run to left field in the eighth inning.
Key Player Performances
Carson Lorch led the Texans’ offense, going 4-for-6 with four RBI and a home run. Brady Englett similarly had a strong showing, going 4-for-5. Jake Tatom contributed two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored, while Kendyl Johnson added two hits and two RBI. Sergio Guerra had an RBI double and scored two runs.
Pitching Performance
Brian Panneton pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out six. Karsen Davis earned the win after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Aden Lucas closed out the final two frames without allowing a hit.
