Battlefield Studios Addresses Season 2 Delay, Outlines Plans for Timely Content Updates

Following a slightly delayed launch for Season 2, Battlefield Studios is proactively addressing concerns about future content delivery. The studio, comprised of DICE, Criterion, Motive, and Ripple Effect, has outlined steps to ensure a more consistent release schedule for upcoming seasons of Battlefield 6.

Season 2 Delay Explained

Season 2 of Battlefield 6 launched on February 17th, approximately one month later than initially anticipated. According to Phil Girette, a producer within the Battlefield Studios family, the delay was a deliberate decision to allow for additional polish and refinement of the content. “We looked at the content that we had planned for Season 2 and we just wanted to give it a little more time in the oven to polish things and make sure we met the expectations that players had,” Girette explained. Addressing Launch History and Future Planning

The delay prompted questions about the studio’s ability to maintain a consistent seasonal release cadence, particularly given past launch challenges. Girette acknowledged a less-than-ideal track record with previous launches but emphasized that the launch of Battlefield 6 itself went “pretty smoothly.” To prevent future delays, Battlefield Studios has implemented changes across various departments to streamline the development and release process. Season 2 Structure and Content Pipeline

Season 2 is structured to deliver content in phases, with two modern phases planned to launch approximately one month apart, extending through mid-May. This phased approach aims to provide a steady stream of new experiences for players. The studio is focused on ensuring that future seasons adhere to their planned release dates. [GameReactor]

Battlefield Studios Collaboration

Battlefield Studios represents a unified effort between four development teams: DICE, Criterion, Motive, and Ripple Effect. [EA News] This collaboration aims to leverage the unique expertise of each studio to create the best possible Battlefield experience. DICE is the creator of the Battlefield franchise, Ripple Effect is led by franchise veterans, Motive is known for its single-player expertise (including Star Wars Squadrons and the Dead Space remake), and Criterion brings its experience in racing games and previous Battlefield contributions.
