Indonesia’s Baznas Establishes Emergency Classrooms in Gaza to Support Displaced Children’s Education
Beit Lahia, North Gaza – Indonesia’s National Zakat Agency (Baznas) has established seven emergency classroom tents in Beit Lahia, North Gaza, to provide educational support for children displaced by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The initiative aims to ensure continued access to education despite the challenging circumstances.
Commitment to Education in Crisis Situations
Baznas Head Sodik Mudjahid emphasized the agency’s dedication to ensuring children’s access to education, even in emergency situations. “We want children in Gaza to continue accessing safe learning spaces. These classroom tents are expected to help them keep studying despite the difficulties,” Mudjahid stated in a press release on Sunday (Antara News, March 22, 2026).
Equipped Learning Spaces and Psychosocial Support
Despite the limitations of the emergency setting, the makeshift classrooms are equipped with desks and chairs to facilitate learning. Baznas is also providing psychosocial support to the students, recognizing the importance of addressing the emotional and mental well-being of children affected by the conflict (Antara News, March 22, 2026).
Gratitude and Support
Mudjahid expressed gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for his support of the program and thanked the Indonesian public for their donations, which made the initiative possible (Antara News, March 22, 2026). He also acknowledged the importance of continued support for the children of Gaza (BAZNAS, March 21, 2026).
Student Perspective
Zeina Al Motawaq, an eight-year-old elementary student, shared her relief at having access to proper learning facilities. “It was very difficult before. We had to write while sitting on the floor, and our backs hurt. We are very grateful for the desks and chairs,” she said (Antara News, March 22, 2026).
Comprehensive Aid Package
In addition to the classrooms, which can accommodate up to 100 children, Baznas is also providing medical services and essential aid, including meals, clean water, clothing, blankets, and tents (Antara News, March 22, 2026).
