BBVA has appointed Luisa Gómez Bravo as new financial director of the entity to replace Rafael Salinas Martínez de Lecea, who leaves the executive position after more than three decades in the ranks of the entity. He will continue to be linked to it as a director of Garanti BBVA.

Gómez Bravo assumes the position at a time of clear recovery for the banking sector, thanks to the new panorama of interest rates in the euro zone that has opened up in the last year.

After twenty years as part of the entity, the new financial director has assumed various positions of responsibility, including that of head of Retail Banking Business Development in Spain; Finance Director of Risk and Corporate Development at Consumer Finance; Global Head of Asset Management; director of Transformation and Operations of BBVA Spain and Portugal; Director of Relations with Investors and Shareholders; Director of Investments and Expense Management; and, since the end of 2018, she was in charge of CIB, the Corporate and Investment Banking segment of BBVA, a position that she is now leaving vacant.

His place will be taken by Javier Rodríguez Soler, current director of Sustainability, who from now on will also assume the part of companies and investment banking. Soler began his career at McKinsey and later joined Endesa where he was Director of Strategy and M&A [fusiones y adquisiciones, por sus siglas en inglés] and, subsequently, Investor Relations. He joined BBVA in 2008 as head of the Energy sector, within the CIB area. In 2010 he moved to the Strategy and M&A area, where he was appointed Global Head in 2015. In 2018 he was appointed country manager of the group’s subsidiary in the United States, later sold to PNC, and since July 2021 he has been responsible for Sustainability.

“Luisa will continue to strengthen the leadership of the BBVA Group in its stage of greatest solvency and financial strength; while Javier will continue to seize the enormous opportunity that sustainability represents, also promoting the wholesale banking business with the success achieved by Luisa”, stated the CEO of BBVA, Onur Genç, through a statement.
