Bears Fall to 49ers in Blowout Loss

The Chicago Bears suffered a tough 38-13 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, marking their ninth loss of the season. Interim head coach Thomas Brown acknowledged the struggles his team faced, stating, “We’ve got to do a better job of putting [in] a better game plan on both sides of the ball so we execute better. Obviously [I will] continue to challenge our guys to be at their best. Also encourage those guys and also demand that we still stay unified.”

Rookie Quarterback Continues Impressive Streak

Despite the loss, Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who completed 17 of 23 passes for 134 yards and a 116.9 passer rating, solidified his impressive streak of not throwing an interception. This brings his streak to an astounding 255 pass attempts, the longest for a Bears quarterback and an NFL rookie.

49ers Dominate on Both Sides of the Ball

The 49ers offense, led by tight end George Kittle who hauled in six receptions for 151 yards, and wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who earned two touchdowns and 90 yards, proved to be a force to be reckoned with. The 49ers controlled the game early, scoring on their opening drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brock Purdy to Jennings. They extended their lead throughout the game with touchdowns from Isaac Guerendo and Purdy to Jennings, leaving the Bears trailing by a significant margin.

Bears Seek Improvements for Week Ahead

The Bears will look to bounce back from this setback as they face the Minnesota Vikings next Monday night. Brown emphasized the need to improve their game start, stating, “It’s a grown man’s business. There is no lay down or quit in our football team, which I do love. But we’ve got to do a better job of trying to find ways of starting the games faster, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.”

The Bears will need to address their struggles in order to compete against the Vikings.

After the Bears closed the gap to 24-6, the 49ers widened the margin to 31-6 on Guerendo’s 4-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter.

After Odunze’s second TD, San Francisco increased its lead to 38-13 on running back Patrick Taylor Jr.’s 3-yard TD run with 5:15 to play. With the loss, the Bears fell to 4-9. Their next game will be played a week from Monday night against the Vikings in Minneapolis.
