UNA Cross country Teams Compete at Southern Showcase
HUNTSVILLE, ala. (September 14, 2025) – The University of North Alabama cross country teams competed Friday morning at the Southern Showcase. The men finished 20th, and the women placed 34th.
Final results were delayed because of technical issues and weren’t released by xpresstiming until sunday evening.
Sophomore Brian Bett led the men’s team with an 18th-place finish, finishing in 24:03.04 – close to his 24:02.36 time from last year’s race on the same course, where he finished eighth.
Sophomore Sandra Maiyo placed 20th in the women’s race,running a 17:13.6 – just four seconds off Teresa steele’s programme record of 17:09.
Bett also improved considerably from last week, cutting nearly 28 seconds off his UNA Invitational time of 24:31.33. Maiyo ran a 17:35.01, setting a new UNA personal record by almost 22 seconds.
There were 459 runners in the men’s division, and five Lions finished in the top half. Bett placed 18th, and sophomore Elijah Moore finished 82nd with a time of 25:29.77.
Freshman Jacob Smith (25:52.88), junior Hunter Simmons (26:01.48), and sophomore Santiago Soto (26:18.47) rounded out the scoring for the Lions.
On the women’s side,freshman Reagan Thompson finished 88th with a time of 18:28.89, while sophomore Emma Harrison (18:48.19), junior Morgan Williams (19:01.99), and freshman Madison Williams (19:18.49) completed the scoring.
UNA will be back in action on October 4 at the Louisville Classic.
