Bose SoundTouch Cloud Support Extension & what It Means for Users
Bose has extended cloud support for its SoundTouch series until May 6, 2026. Originally slated to end in February 2026,the extension provides users with additional time before the system transitions to local operation. Bose initially announced the discontinuation of cloud services due to the increasing challenges and costs of maintaining infrastructure for products first released in 2013.
What Changes with the Update?
On May 6, 2026, the SoundTouch app will automatically update to function without cloud connectivity. This update requires no action from users – it will occur automatically upon opening the app.
What Will Still work?
Despite the shift, core functionalities will remain intact. SoundTouch systems will continue to support:
* Bluetooth streaming
* AirPlay
* Spotify Connect
* AUX input
* System setup and configuration via the app
* Basic playback controls (play, pause, skip, volume)
* Multi-speaker grouping on the same Wi-Fi network
What Will Be lost?
The transition to local operation will eliminate several cloud-dependent features:
* Preset buttons (on products and within the app) will cease to function.
* Direct music browsing and playback within the SoundTouch app will no longer be available.
* SoundTouch products will no longer receive security or software updates.
Developer Chance & Data Deletion
Bose has released the SoundTouch Web API documentation, encouraging developers to create third-party solutions for continued functionality. All product usage and interaction data associated with SoundTouch devices will be deleted by Bose on May 15, 2026.
