Batista was considered one of the nation’s brightest hopes in the sport. He had been a member of the Soares Team for nine years and represented Rio de Janeiro. He was scheduled to participate in the National Open Selective on Thursday.
Hospitalization and Community Support
The cause of death has not been disclosed. Batista had been hospitalized for a week at Miguel Couto Hospital in Rio de Janeiro prior to his death.
