Bank of America announced Friday that it had approved total compensation of $41 million for its CEO Brian Moynihan for 2025, an increase of more than 17.1% compared to the previous year.
At 65 years old, Brian Moynihan is one of the oldest executives in the sector. He took over as head of the bank in 2010, following a turbulent succession process, and led the institution’s recovery after the 2008 financial crisis.
According to the bank, this compensation includes $1.5 million in base salary, with the remainder awarded in the form of stock incentives. Moynihan had received $35 million in total compensation in 2024.
In a document justifying this remuneration, Bank of America highlighted the solid financial results, the attention paid to employee well-being and the philanthropic efforts led by Moynihan.
Top executives at rival banks Wells Fargo, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase also enjoyed similar raises after a banner year. The big names on Wall Street are now preparing for another prosperous year for mergers and acquisitions, while managing an increasingly complex relationship with Washington.
Jane Fraser, CEO of Citi and the first woman to lead a major U.S. bank, received $42 million.
Charlie Scharf, head of Wells Fargo, was paid $40 million for 2025, while Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan received $43 million.
David Solomon at Goldman Sachs received $47 million last year, and Ted Pick at Morgan Stanley received $45 million.
Last month, Bank of America beat forecasts by reporting a better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit as its traders took advantage of market volatility and the bank saw higher interest income.
The group’s net profit for 2025 jumped to $30.5 billion, compared to $27 billion a year earlier. Bank of America shares ended the year up around 25%, marking a third consecutive year of growth.
Shortly after its earnings release, Bank of America announced approximately $1 billion in stock awards to all employees except executives, marking the ninth consecutive year of stock awards at the second-largest U.S. bank.
