Olivia Dean Dominates 2026 BRIT Awards Amid Censorship and Pro-Palestine Demonstrations

Manchester, UK – March 1, 2026 – Olivia Dean was the standout artist at the 2026 BRIT Awards, securing four awards – Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for The Art of Loving, Pop Act and Song of the Year for “Rein Me In,” her collaboration with Sam Fender. Yet, the ceremony at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena was also marked by instances of censorship by ITV, including a joke referencing Lord Peter Mandelson and a vocal expression of support for Palestine.

Censored Moments and Political Statements

Presenter Jack Whitehall’s opening monologue included a joke about the potential attendance of Lord Peter Mandelson, which was cut from the ITV broadcast. Later in the evening, Geese drummer Max Bassin’s acceptance speech for International Group was censored after he voiced support for Palestine and included an expletive. He also referenced US immigration enforcement during his speech.

Adding to the politically charged atmosphere, Scottish singer Jacob Alon, who previously won the Brit Critics Choice Award 2026, was seen holding a Palestinian keffiyeh during Sharon Osbourne’s acceptance speech for her husband Ozzy Osbourne’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Alon had previously demonstrated his support for Palestine by chanting “free Palestine” during his performance at the 2025 Mercury Music Prize.

Key Winners and Performances

Beyond Olivia Dean’s success, several other artists were recognized for their achievements. Sam Fender was awarded Best Alternative/Rock Act and praised Dean’s contribution to “Rein Me In,” stating she had “made the song her own.” Wolf Alice took home the award for Group of the Year, using their platform to highlight the challenges faced by grassroots music venues in the UK, citing recent closures and job losses.

Fred again.., Skepta and PlaqueBoyMax jointly won the Dance Act award, and Sault was honored as R&B Act.
