Worship Leader Brooke Ligertwood Shares Story of Answered Prayer and Unexpected Theological Connection
In a remarkable story of faith and divine providence, worship leader Brooke Ligertwood, known for songs like “A Thousand Hallelujahs” and “Bless God,” recently recounted an extraordinary encounter that led her to an unexpected opportunity for theological study. The story, shared on social media, involves a woman from Ukraine whose prayers played a pivotal role in Ligertwood’s journey.
A Prayer from Ukraine
Ligertwood detailed how she met Ksusha, a Ukrainian woman studying for her doctorate in theology remotely while periodically traveling to the U.S. For intensive classes. Years prior, Ksusha had come across a video clip of Ligertwood expressing a desire to one day study theology. Moved by this, Ksusha began earnestly praying that Ligertwood would have the chance to pursue her interest.
“She told me that a couple of years ago she came across a clip of me being asked if there was something in my life I hadn’t had the opportunity to do yet that I would like to,” Ligertwood wrote in a social media post. “I answered that one day I hoped to study theology.”
An Unforeseen Connection at Lanier Theological Library
Through a series of connections, Ligertwood found herself auditing a doctoral intensive at Lanier Theological Library and Learning Center in Houston, Texas, taught by Recent Testament scholar Dr. Lynn Cohick. Ligertwood described herself as “poorly educated” in a formal sense, having been mentored by theologians like C.S. Lewis and Bonhoeffer through independent reading while touring as a musician.
“My feet clip-clopped on the stone and my heart giddy upped – one of those moments where one becomes hyper-aware of experiencing said moment by sheer grace,” Ligertwood shared. It was at Lanier that she encountered Ksusha.
A Moment of Divine Orchestration
The encounter was particularly poignant. Ksusha, upon seeing Ligertwood, was initially struck with shock, exclaiming, “I’m shocked!” before introducing herself. She then explained to Ligertwood how she had been praying for her for years, and how God had not only answered her prayer but had similarly orchestrated their meeting in the same class.
“God saw fit not only to give me a sublime taste of an answer to a prayer I hadn’t dared pray myself, but made sure that she who had faith to pray it for me saw with her own eyes a beginning come to pass,” Ligertwood wrote. “So, when you pray, know this: God is a loving Father with a glint in His eye.”
Faith and Divine Providence
Ligertwood’s story has resonated widely, highlighting the power of prayer and the unexpected ways in which faith can be manifested. The encounter serves as a testament to the belief that God can work through others to fulfill desires and bring about opportunities that may have seemed impossible.
