Two brothers admitted selling drugs at their family home in Baltinglass, County Wicklow.
Brothers Plead Guilty for Drug Possession and Sale
Michael (30) and Shane Sweeney (25), residents of Deerpark View, Baltinglass appeared in Carlow District Court last week. Both pleaded guilty to charges of drug possession and intent to supply illegal substances at their family address on August 31, 2023.
Police searched the property following reliable intelligence regarding illegal drug dealings originating from the address.
Low-Level Operation Identified During Raid
During the raid, the gardaí discovered a supply of cannabis, weighing equipment, and a sum of cash. Solicitor Chris Hogan, representing both brothers, stated that the brothers accepted responsibility for managing various quantities of drugs, found in various locations, within the house. Their admission included acknowledging the involvement in selling these drugs

Mr. Hogan provided further context, emphasizing Shane Sweeney’s participation as he was traveling en route to the Electric Picnic music festival in County Laoises when the raid transpired. Conversely, Michael Sweeney, according to Mr Hogan, was engaging in transactions selling small quantities of drugs to sustain his addiction.
Mr. Hogan underscored that the gardaí classified the operation as involving low-level activity.
Both brothers employed.
Positive Testing and Remorse
Judge Geraldine Carthy heard that Shane Sweeney was recently tested negative for illegal substances. Both brothers now appear to have learned, as Judge Carthy implied, a significant lesson throughout the ordeal.
Judge Carthy expressed her intention to formally decide on sentencing after comprehensive examination of all case evidence. She adjourned the final sentencing to November 6th.
