Brunello di Montalcino Sales Surge in the U.S., Driven by Texas Demand
Brunello di Montalcino, Italy’s esteemed wine, is experiencing robust growth in the United States, defying broader market trends. A recent analysis indicates a 7.7% increase in volume and a 2% rise in value of U.S. Distributor sales in 2025, according to data from the Observatory of Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) tracked via Sipsource .
Strong Performance Amidst Market Challenges
This growth is particularly noteworthy as it outpaces both the overall U.S. Wine market and the performance of Italian wines generally. The U.S. Remains the leading export market for Brunello di Montalcino. Despite an overall 8.8% decline in wine volumes sold in the U.S. And a 5.2% decrease for Italian wines, Brunello has bucked the trend .
Texas Leads the Charge
The Southern United States, and Texas in particular, is a key driver of this growth, representing nearly half of Brunello’s U.S. Market. Texas saw a volume increase of close to 9% . The hospitality and wholesale club channels also demonstrated strong performance.
Benvenuto Brunello 2026 Events
The Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino is capitalizing on this momentum with “Benvenuto Brunello 2026,” a series of trade-focused events. On February 24th, 48 producers will showcase newly released vintages – Brunello 2021, Brunello Riserva 2020, and Rosso di Montalcino 2024 – at 583 Park Avenue in New York City . A consumer tasting will follow on February 25th in partnership with Millesima, a luxury wine retailer.
Texas Masterclasses
The consortium will also host masterclasses in Texas for the first time, on March 3rd in Dallas and March 4th in Austin. Led by Master of Wine Gabriele Gorelli, these sessions, titled “Brunello 2021: Decoding the Vintage,” will offer an in-depth exploration of the 2021 vintage .
Consortium Commitment
“Montalcino does not intend to give up its privileged partner in a phase of trade tensions, and it does so with a record presence of its producers, 40% more than last year,” stated Giacomo Bartolommei, President of the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino .
