Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wide Receiver Chris Godwin Suffers Season-Ending Ankle Injury

In a devastating turn of events during Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a serious ankle injury that appears to have ended his season.

With just under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, Godwin made a catch over the middle. However, his leg was awkwardly twisted underneath him by Baltimore linebacker Roquan Smith. Godwin crumpled to the turf, unable to get up. CBS commentators immediately noted the severity of the injury, and the network chose not to replay it.

“I’m told by our production truck we are not going to show the replay,” said play-by-play announcer Joe Buck, who described the injury as “ugly.” The moment was captured in a video posted by NFL on CBS panicked Buccaneers could be heard shouting from the sideline.

Godwin was carted off the field with an air cast on his left ankle. Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed postgame that he believes Godwin dislocated his ankle. “It doesn’t look good,” Bowles said.

Bowles defended his decision to leave Godwin in the game despite being down by 10 points with time winding down. “We’re just trying to win the ballgame. We’re still down 10, trying to get extra points, kick another onside kick. It just happened. It happens in football,” he explained.

In addition to Godwin’s injury, the Buccaneers also suffered a hamstring injury to wide receiver Mike Evans in the first half. The combination of these losses dealt a major blow to the Buccaneers offense, particularly after Godwin was enjoying a strong season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers already face an uphill battle in the competitive NFC. This latest setback will undoubtedly test their resilience and depth for the remainder of the season.

Looking ahead, it remains to be seen how long Godwin will be sidelined.
