Georgia volleyball kicks off its 2025 home schedule this week by hosting the Classic City Clash at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs will welcome Alabama State, Texas Tech, and Duke for a six-match round-robin tournament begining Wednesday.
The Bulldogs will face Alabama State at 10:30 a.m. and Texas Tech at 7 p.m. on Thursday.The tournament concludes Friday at 4 p.m. with Georgia taking on Duke.

recent news highlights achievements within the volleyball world, celebrating both player accomplishments at the University of Georgia and the distinguished career of a coach at UC San Diego. This includes recognition for Georgia’s dynamic outside hitter, a strong academic year for the Bulldogs, and the upcoming hall of Fame induction of former UCSD player and coach, Tom Black.
Georgia Volleyball Celebrates Player Success and Academic Excellence
The University of Georgia volleyball program has seen recent success both on and off the court. Senior outside hitter, Brianna Gooden, concluded her career as a member of Georgia’s Double Grand Club, achieving over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. https://georgiadogs.com/news/2024/04/26/womens-volleyball-gooden-named-to-avca-all-america-team/ She finished with 2,057 kills and 1,127 digs, earning three SEC Player of the Week awards and five SEC Freshman of the week honors in 2019.
The Bulldogs also demonstrated a commitment to academic achievement during the 2024-25 academic year. The team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Award for maintaining a 3.563 GPA. https://www.avca.org/awards/team-academic-awards.html Eleven players were recognized on the 2024 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll,and one freshman was named to the 2024-25 SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll. Additionally, Bianna Muoneke and Ceci Gooch received CSC Academic All-district honors, while MK Patten maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the year.
Tom Black to be Inducted into UCSD Athletics Hall of fame
UC San Diego Athletics announced that Tom Black will be inducted into its 2025 Athletics hall of Fame Class. https://ucsdtritons.com/news/2024/6/13/athletics-hall-of-fame-class-of-2025-announced.aspx Black played for UCSD from 1993-1996, graduating as the program’s all-time kills leader. He received MPSF honorable mention recognition, was named Volleyball Magazine Small College Player of the Year, and earned Small College All-American honors.
Following his playing career,Black served as the head coach for the UCSD women’s volleyball team from 2005-2009,achieving a record of 115-29. The official induction ceremony is scheduled for November 8, 2025, on the UC San Diego campus.
