# Call of Duty Creator vince Zampella Dies in Car Crash

Sad news for gamers and fans of video games. Vince Zampella, the creator of the action video game series *Call of Duty*, *Battlefield*, and *Medal of Honor*, died two days ago. The renowned computer game developer and owner of the video game studio Respawn Entertainment was 55 years old and died in a car accident on the highway north of Los Angeles. He apparently lost control and his Ferrari sports car flew out of a tunnel, crashed into a barrier by the rock wall, and subsequently caught fire, writes *The Hollywood Reporter*. Video of the tragic accident has now surfaced.

Zampella was driving and was trapped in the car, where he subsequently died. His passenger was ejected from the car and later died in hospital. “For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the road, struck a concrete barrier and became fully engulfed in flames,” the California Highway Patrol said. Video of the collision, which has gone viral on social media, shows the car exiting the tunnel at high speed before it veers off the road.

Zampella created the PC shooter *Call of duty* with his long-time collaborators Jason West and Grant Collier in 2003. The game, which is partially inspired by the events of World War II, has sold 500 million copies and made publisher Activision, owned by Microsoft, one of the most profitable gaming companies. *call of Duty* boasts more than 100 million monthly active players, according to [source needed].
