The Ministries of Labor and Economy have closed an agreement for the reform of unemployment benefits that will be approved today in the Minister council and that it was one of the pending milestones to be able to request from Brussels the fourth disbursement of European funds in the amount of 10,000 million euros.

Sources from the Ministry of Labor have confirmed that the reform is on the table of the Council of Ministers this Tuesday and have referred to the subsequent press conference to find out the details of the agreement. As this newspaper has been able to confirm, the benefit rises to 570 euros during the first six months (it is currently at 480); and from there it goes down, to 540 euros during the next six months and to 480 euros afterwards.

The maximum duration will be 30 months as requested by Yolanda Díaz’s department. The reform has been negotiated in extremis, given the desire of the Executive to take it to the Council of Ministers today, but it has had to be negotiated until the last moment.

Yolanda Díaz’s initial proposal was much more ambitious. She intended for the subsidy to escalate to 660 euros (110% of the IPREM) during the first half year and gradually decrease. In the end, the starting point is the aforementioned 570 euros, 95% of the current IPREM.
