Can Lejárraga’s ‘Acércate un poco más…’ Opens at Centro Cultural Doctor Madrazo

The Centro Cultural Doctor Madrazo in Santander is hosting the exhibition ‘Acércate un poco más…’, a collection of works by Cantabrian artist Can Lejárraga. Curated by Laura Olea, the exhibition explores the act of drawing as a primary method for observation, knowledge, and experimentation. The show is open to the public through September 11.

The exhibition features a series of drawings on paper that highlight Lejárraga’s specific creative process. According to curator Laura Olea, the works stem from a desire to observe and record the world with a nearly scientific impulse, while simultaneously remaining open to intuitive, non-verbal expression. The collection functions as an “imaginary laboratory,” where the artist’s hand and eye engage in a dialogue that balances analytical precision with poetic speculation.

Visitors can view the exhibition during the center’s regular hours: Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

About the Artist

Born in Cantabria in 1998, Can Lejárraga maintains a professional practice that spans graphic design and illustration. Her work often investigates visual communication forms that exist beyond verbal language. A graduate of the ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in the Netherlands, Lejárraga has participated in various creative residencies and programs, including CASYC CREA and Praxis.

Her professional background includes:
* Artistic Development: Participation in international fairs such as the Ghent Art Book Fair and local projects like Libros Mutantes and GRAF.
* Independent Publishing: In 2025, she was awarded an INJUVE creation grant to advance her independent editorial project, Ediciones JEJE, which focuses on collaborations with emerging artists.
* Exhibition History: She has previously presented individual exhibitions in Barcelona and has been featured in numerous collective displays throughout her career.
