Canadian Passport Fees to Increase Annually Starting March 31, 2026
Canadian passport and travel document fees will increase on March 31, 2026, marking the first update to these fees since 2013. The Government of Canada has announced that these fees will now be adjusted annually to keep pace with rising costs and maintain sustainable service delivery.
Fee Increases for 2026
The fee increases will affect various passport application types within Canada:
- Regular 10-year adult passport: $163.50 (up from $160)
- 5-year regular adult passport: $122.50 (up from $120)
- Regular 5-year child passport: $58.50 (up from $57)
For Canadians aged 16 and over residing abroad, the fee for a 10-year passport will increase to $266.25 (up from $260).
Annual Fee Adjustments
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) spokesperson Remi Lariviere stated that passport and travel document fees will be updated annually to help maintain sustainable and consistent service over time. This change aligns with the practice of updating certain government fees annually based on inflation, as outlined in the Service Fees Act.
Faster Processing Times
In addition to the fee increases, the Canadian government is implementing faster passport processing times. Starting April 1, 2026, complete passport applications will be processed within 30 business days. If the processing time exceeds this timeframe, applicants will receive a full refund of their passport fees.
More information on the fee increases and passport services is available on the Government of Canada website.
