Carrot Rebrands to Expand Beyond Visual Field Testing
Published: March 12, 2026
ORLANDO – Virtual Field, a company specializing in virtual reality headsets for visual field testing, has rebranded as Carrot. This strategic shift aims to broaden the company’s focus and expand its offerings beyond its initial core product.
Expanding Beyond Visual Fields
According to Jeremy Barlow, CEO of Carrot, the rebrand reflects the company’s growth and evolving ambitions. “The original mission was to really rethink the way that visual field exams were done, and the company accomplished that,” Barlow stated in an interview at Vision Expo. “We felt like Virtual Field, even as an incredible name for the time, was becoming a little limiting for us given that of our much broader offering today and our much larger ambitions that we have for the future.”
Future Plans: Expanding Tests and Integrations
Carrot’s future plans fall into three key areas. First, the company intends to continue expanding the range of tests available on its headsets. Barlow mentioned upcoming exams including contrast sensitivity, cover-uncover testing, and D-15 testing. Healio reports that a growing number of tests are in development.
Second, Carrot is working on more comprehensive integrations with existing clinical tools. “We want to play nice in the sandbox with all the other tools that optometrists are using,” Barlow explained, noting existing integrations with medical records and imaging systems. The company also aims to integrate with practice management solutions to streamline workflows.
Finally, Carrot is exploring opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to enhance its technology. Barlow envisions AI simplifying exams, aiding in diagnosis, and assisting technicians to improve efficiency.
Scale and Impact
To date, Carrot’s headsets have been used for over 5 million exams in more than 2,400 clinics, according to a company press release. Barlow emphasized the company’s growth, stating, “Sometimes people view us as a startup. I think we’re a little beyond that at this point. We like to think that we have some pretty great scale.”
