The Revelstoke Grizzlies have taken a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) playoff series against the Merritt Centennials, following a dominant weekend of play. Despite a competitive opening game, the Grizzlies have proven to be a formidable opponent, leaving the Centennials facing a significant challenge to stay alive in the postseason.

Game 1: Grizzlies Win in Overtime Thriller

The series began on March 6th with a high-scoring affair in Revelstoke, ultimately ending in a 5-4 overtime victory for the Grizzlies. The Merritt Herald reported that the Centennials initially fell behind early in the first period, but battled back to take a 2-1 lead before the end of the frame, thanks to goals from Noah Lawless and Troy Horn. The lead changed hands multiple times throughout the game, with both teams showcasing offensive prowess. Revelstoke ultimately secured the win over six minutes into overtime, following a combined 100 shots on net between both teams. Merritt goaltender Sam Siskiw faced a staggering 51 shots in the loss.

Game 2: Grizzlies Shutout Centennials

Saturday’s game saw a stark contrast in results, with the Revelstoke Grizzlies delivering a decisive 5-0 shutout against the Merritt Centennials. The Revelstoke Review highlighted the strong performance of Grizzlies forward Walker Overwater, who scored a natural hat trick and was named the star of the game. Despite a valiant effort from Siskiw, who made 32 saves and 43 shots faced by Revelstoke’s Austin Seibel, the Centennials were unable to find the back of the net.

Walker Overwater’s standout performance in Game 2, with his natural hat trick, was a key factor in the Grizzlies’ victory. Austin Seibel’s shutout, stopping all 43 shots, further solidified Revelstoke’s dominance. Despite the losses, Sam Siskiw of the Centennials demonstrated resilience, facing a high volume of shots in both games.
