Black Queens Open Season 2 with Major Roster Overhaul and Song A as Starting Pitcher
The “Black Queens,” Korea’s 50th women’s baseball team, return for the second season of Channel A’s *Baseball Queen 2* with a significantly altered lineup and a high-stakes mandate. According to the network, the team must maintain a 6-hal win rate or face mandatory dissolution. Under the leadership of manager Choo Shin-soo and coaches Lee Dae-hyung and Yoon Seok-min, the team has implemented a performance-based selection process, moving away from seniority to determine the starting roster.
New Roster Strategy and Position Shifts
The season opener, scheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 10:00 p.m. KST, features a revamped squad. Manager Choo Shin-soo confirmed that the roster was determined strictly by skill level to avoid the risk of team disbandment. This decision resulted in significant shifts, including the placement of new members Park Min-seo at shortstop and Choi Hye-bin at third base.
The team has integrated five new players this season:
* Park Min-seo: Golf
* Choi Hye-bin: Softball
* Kim Na-young: Field Hockey
* Kim Se-hyun: Tennis
* Song Min-ji: Badminton
These arrivals have caused internal friction, as several players who held starting positions in the first season were excluded from the opening lineup, leading to visible disappointment among the veterans watching from the dugout.
Song A Transitioning to Starting Pitcher
One of the most notable tactical changes is the promotion of “trusted hitter” Song A to the starting pitcher role. Manager Choo Shin-soo stated that Song A earned the spot through intensive off-season training and clear development in her pitching mechanics.
Song A expressed that taking the mound was a personal goal for the new season. “My target for season two was to pitch for one inning,” she said. “I am grateful to have achieved this and I intend to show a completely different side of my game as a pitcher.”
The Challenge of Facing the Santas
The Black Queens’ first opponent is the “Santas,” a team ranked 9th in the 2025 national women’s baseball rankings. The Santas enter the match with a potent offense, boasting a 4-hal-7-ri team batting average.
The matchup presents a statistical challenge for the Black Queens, as the Santas feature hitters with batting averages exceeding Song A’s own 6-hal-5-pun-5-ri mark. To bolster the event, singer Chu will provide the ceremonial first pitch, with manager Choo Shin-soo serving as the batter, a pairing the production team has dubbed the “Chu-Chu Chemistry.”
The episode airing on May 16 will document whether the team’s aggressive roster changes and tactical adjustments can overcome the offensive threat posed by the Santas under the pressure of the season-long win-rate requirement.
