Channing Tatum and Roxane Gay to Co-Author Romance Novel
Channing Tatum, known for his roles in Magic Mike and other films, is expanding his creative endeavors into the literary world. He will be co-authoring a romance novel with Roxane Gay, the acclaimed author of Terrible Feminist and Hunger, scheduled for release next year.
An Unconventional Collaboration
The partnership between Tatum and Gay originated in a rather unexpected manner. As Gay recounted on the Service95 podcast, a journalist inquired if Tatum was aware of her previous admiration for him, as expressed in her book, Bad Feminist. Tatum, initially unaware, expressed interest in reading the work.
Following this, a project proposal emerged, with Tatum specifically requesting Gay as his co-author. “And then someone approached him about doing a book project,” Gay explained, “and he was like, ‘Yes, I would love to, if I can co-write it with this person.’”
A “Sexy” Romance in the Works
Details surrounding the novel remain limited, but Gay has described the project as “very sexy. Lots and lots of sex.” The collaboration highlights Tatum’s willingness to explore latest creative avenues and Gay’s continued influence in contemporary literature.
Roxane Gay Receives Literarian Award
In related news, Roxane Gay will receive the National Book Foundation’s 2025 Literarian Award on November 19th, recognizing her service to the American literary community. This honor acknowledges her contributions through platforms like the Audacity newsletter, co-ownership of the Rumpus literary magazine and advocacy for underrepresented writers. The award includes a $10,000 prize.
Tatum and Gay’s Commitment to Equity
The collaboration between Tatum and Gay is also notable for its commitment to equitable compensation. According to Gay, Tatum “went out of his way to ensure they were paid equally” for the project, demonstrating an awareness of privilege and a dedication to fairness.
