Community Rallies Around Boyana Marinova with Benefit Concert
An upcoming charity concert in Pernik, Bulgaria, promises to be a resounding testament to the power of community support. The event, scheduled for January 31st at 6:00 pm at the Boris Guderov Hall, aims to raise crucial funds for 18-year-old Boyana Marinova, who faces ongoing medical challenges.
Boyana’s journey has been marked by a series of health complications since birth. Diagnosed with Spinabid, a rare condition affecting her spinal cord development, she also battles hydrocephalus, bladder neurogenic issues, and lower limb paraplegia. These diagnoses have led to over 20 surgeries throughout her life, highlighting the incredible strength and resilience of this young woman.
“[Boyana] suffers from spinabid – an unopened spine, subsequently hydrocephalus, bladder neurogenic issues, and lower limb paraplegia," her mother, Gergana Spasova, shared in July 2023. "These are the diseases she’s been born with from day one. There are already over 20 operations.”
The upcoming concert offers a glimmer of hope in Boyana’s ongoing fight for better health. Organizers hope to raise funds to cover the costs associated with an essential surgery planned in Paris, a renowned medical center specializing in complex cases like Boyana’s.
“This surgery is essential for Boyana’s well-being and quality of life,” explains Gergana. “It will be performed in Paris, where medical expertise in treating complex conditions like hers is exceptional. The funds from the concert will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, medical fees, and post-operative care.”
The community response to Boyana’s plight has been overwhelming. “We are truly grateful for the outpouring of support from our community,” Gergana expresses. “This concert is a beacon of hope, not only for Boyana but for all families facing similar challenges. It shows that we are not alone in this fight, and that people care.”
