American singer-songwriter-producer Charlie Puth will sing the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, California. The 34-year-old contemporary pop artist has never performed at the game before, but told Rolling Stone magazine that he has always wanted to perform “the hardest song ever written.”
“I recorded a little demo, just me singing with the Rhodes and sent it to Roc Nation,” Puth said. “I’ve been told Jay-Z loved it, and it got to (NFL Commissioner Roger) Goodell and they all said that I could do it.”
Who is Charlie Puth?
Known for viral hits like “Attention,” “We Don’t Talk Anymore (feat.) Selena Gomez,” “See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa, and “One Call Away,” the New Jersey native got his start the way many modern stars did in the late 2000s – YouTube.
After a couple years posting comedy skits and song covers, Puth signed with Ellen DeGeneres’ eleveneleven label after performing on her show in 2011, but didn’t release any music until signing with the Artist Partner Group and Atlantic Records label in 2015.
Puth’s debut single, “Marvin Gaye (feat. Meghan Trainor),” and his posthumous tribute to “Fast & Furious” star Paul Walker, titled “See You Again,” dropped that same year. Since then, Puth has drawn much acclaim for his perfect pitch, or the rare ability to identify and replicate a musical note after hearing it with no reference to other notes.
Three albums later – including the Grammy-nominated “Voicenotes” – Puth is now married, with a kid and a fourth record on the way. But first, he must take on “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
“I just want to do my own thing with the hardest piece of music ever written,” Puth told Rolling Stone in an interview. “And I just wanna show people that I can do it. I feel like people don’t really think of me as, like, a stand-alone vocalist at times.”

When will Charlie Puth perform at the Super Bowl?
Super Bowl LX starts at 6:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 8 in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Puth, who is performing the national anthem, should begin around that time, along with team introductions and the coin toss.
