Prime Minister Christopher Luxon Joins International Summit to Address Peacekeeping in Ukraine
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon recently participated in a significant virtual summit with world leaders aimed at discussing the potential deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine. This high-profile gathering, known as the “Coalition of the Willing,” was convened by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and featured notable participants such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
NZ’s Strong Stance on Ukraine
“New Zealand stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine,” Luxon affirmed on social media after the call. During the summit, discussions highlighted how global cooperation could support Ukraine in achieving a just and lasting peace. Notably, a New Zealand defence attaché was already engaged in similar diplomatic talks in Paris, working alongside officials from about 30 different countries.
Unexpected Inclusion in Summit
Although New Zealand was not originally anticipated to participate in the summit, Luxon confirmed on Friday that he had been invited and decided to accept this opportunity. “It will be a chance, really, for an update as to the different lines of diplomatic efforts that are going in across securing peace in Ukraine,” stated Luxon, emphasizing New Zealand’s commitment to international peace efforts.
