Norris’s family announced his death in a statement posted to Instagram, saying, “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please understand that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.” The statement continued, “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”
Born Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris on March 10, 1940, Norris excelled in martial arts, earning black belts in judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, karate, Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, and Chun Kuk Do.
From Martial Arts to Hollywood
Norris’s acting career began in 1972 with a role opposite Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon (also known as Return of the Dragon). He went on to star in a series of action films throughout the 1970s and 80s, including Good Guys Wear Black (1978), The Octagon (1980), Lone Wolf McQuade (1983), Code of Silence (1985), and Firewalker (1986).
