Norris’ family confirmed his death on Instagram Friday morning, following reports that he had been hospitalized in Hawaii earlier in the week due to an unspecified medical emergency . The family requested privacy regarding the circumstances of his death, stating he was “surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
In a statement, the family described Norris as “a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.” They added, “He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his function, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”
From Martial Arts to the Silver Screen
Norris became one of the most recognizable action stars of the 1970s and 1980s, appearing in numerous films and eventually starring in the hit television series Walker, Texas Ranger. The display, which debuted in 1993, ran for nine seasons and 203 episodes on CBS .
Born Carlos Ray Norris on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to a Cherokee father and an Irish-English mother, Norris began studying martial arts while serving in the Air Force in South Korea. He became a world middleweight karate champion from 1968 to 1974.
His film career began with a small role in The Wrecking Crew (1968), and he later starred alongside Bruce Lee in Return of the Dragon (1973). While films like Breaker! Breaker! (1977) and Good Guys Wear Black (1978) achieved moderate success, it was Missing in Action (1984) and Code of Silence (1985) that solidified his status as a leading action star.

Just days before his death, Norris shared a video on Instagram celebrating his 86th birthday on March 10th. In the video, he showcased his fighting skills and expressed gratitude for his health and fans . “I don’t age,” he said. “I level up.” He continued, “I’m grateful for another year, good health and the chance to keep doing what I love.”
On Wednesday, March 19, 2026, Norris was hospitalized in Hawaii due to a medical emergency .
